Dr. Darius Kohan is a graduate of New York University School of Medicine and was board certified as an otolaryngologist in 1990 following completion of his residency training at the same institution. He acquired specialized advanced training in Otology and Neurotology (disease of the ear and surgical/medical management) during his fellowship at New York University Medical Center.
Currently, Dr. Kohan is Associate Clinical Professor of Otolaryngology at New York University School of Medicine, Director of Otology/Neurotology at Lenox Hill Hospital/Manhattan Eye, Ear, and Throat Hospital (MEETH), and voluntary attending surgeon at New York Eye and Ear Infirmary. He is former Medical Co-Director of the Center for Communication (the former League for the Hard of Hearing).
Most recently, Dr. Kohan was the Course Director for the 2019 Implantable Auditory Devices conference hosted by Northwell Health. He ran the course alongside numerous notable colleagues and presented on middle ear mechanically auditory driven system. Dr. Kohan was given this honor because of his extensive research in hearing restoration devices/surgery and his decades of experience in the fields of Otology/Neurotology along with the esteemed titles he holds such as:
Dr. Kohan has authored several books, numerous articles, and contributes as editor to several specialty periodicals. He has given several courses and lectured extensively nationally and internationally on his field of expertise – Otology/Neurotology. He was elected to the medical board at Beth Israel Medical Center in 1994. Dr. Kohan participated in several national committees of the American Academy of Otolaryngology including SiPac Educational Committee, Hearing Subcommittee, and Implantable Device Committee. He is the Governor of the New York Otologic Society. He is committed to medical student and resident education in otolaryngology and dedicated to taking care of his patients.
He has been quoted as an expert and featured many times on public media platforms: CBS, Fox, ABC, NY Times, The NY Post, WebMD, HealthDay, and many others. Dr.Kohan has been named NY TOP Doctor by Castle Connolly for over 20 consecutive years, NY Times Superdoctor over 10 times, and NY Magazine Top Doctor 14 times. He has received numerous other honors over his career.
